Group Roles Freebie

Today, was our first day back after a four day weekend. I really enjoyed the time off with my husband and family, but I was ready to get back to business. We now have 13 school days until our TCAP. TCAP is the Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment Program. We will be taking the reading/language TCAP on April 30th. I have created a Jeopardy game on group roles. My students must understand the five major groups roles: leader, reporter, recorder, information gatherer, and time keeper. They must also understand how to work in groups in a kind and productive manner. To help them review our group roles will be playing the Jeopardy game on Friday. Be sure to download this freebie here.

Free Lesson Plans

While on one of my favorite websites, (Scholastic) I found that they have added a database of lesson plans. You can search the database by grade, subject, types, and keywords. The lesson plans include descriptions, directions, resources, and assessments. The same website also has a daily starter for language, math, and a fun fact. The daily starter has two views; a teacher view and a student view. The daily starters can also be printed and are updated each day. The site also has free resources for the Smart board. The sites are separated into categories and then they have the age listed under each resource.

Free Persuasive Techniques Center

As a sixth grade teacher, my students must learn four of the persuasive techniques used in advertisements. They must know bandwagon, name calling, testimonial, and loaded words. There are not that many resources available out there. So, I created a center for my students. Students will have the four header cards and seven persuasive technique cards. Students will work together to place each example under the heading. For more in-depth learning students can identify the words that helped them identify the persuasive technique. I also provided an answer sheet.  Click here for the free center! I hope you enjoy.

Oh, Testing Here We Come!

I have been a horrible, horrible blogger the past two weeks. The main reason for my being MIA is the upcoming TCAP tests. We have spring break tomorrow through Monday. Then we have 14 school days until the TEST! So, that means I will be working hard on activities to help my students for the big day. I will be posting my new creations on my blog, so come back soon to see. While searching for ideas to create, I came across a center website for upper-grade levels. Spring Branch School System has literacy stations that are perfect for 6th-8th grade reading classrooms. I hope this is helpful!
