Flocabulary 75-Day Free Trial

I'm super excited to be sharing some news from the awesome folks over at Flocabulary. This is an amazing site that uses hip-hop music to teach lessons. You can find anything from weekly news, English, science, etc. Students enjoy the videos and can be heard singing them weeks later.

One of my students' favorite videos is the "Test-Taking Vocabulary". They love the beat and the twist ending. The video has lyrics, fill-in-the-blank lyrics, interactive lyric lesson, topic exercises, and a quiz.  The extra resources can be printed, or they can be completed with the students on the smart board. The lyrics are an excellent text to conduct close reads with students.

If you sign up for a free 75-day trial to Flocabulary you will have access to:

  • More than 700 videos in math, science, social studies, ELA, vocabulary, current events and life skills, with new content every week.
  • Classroom resources and formative assessments to support the videos and learning

If you would like to sign up, click here. Be sure to do so by February 29th when the promotion ends. Please, let me know what you think and what videos I should check out next. Thank you for stopping by and checking out Flocabulary.

Contraction Materials Galore

It is now snow day number six for me and today I have contraction materials for you. One of my rules of editing for my students is that they "must break apart a contraction". This rule helps them figure out if they should be using it's or its. To follow this rule, students must know their contractions. To help I've created a contraction bingo set, contraction puzzle, and contraction dominoes. You can download each by clicking on each picture.

Thank you for stopping by and please let me know in the comments below what other resources you are looking for.

Writing Handout for Better Writing

I am now on day four of being snowed in, how about you? I created three useful, but adorable writing handouts for students. Click on each picture to download your free copy.

A great resource to help students write with words other than the dreaded said.

Signal words are tricky for students. This handout is a great tool to help out.

Another great resource to help students know which punctuation mark they should use.

I am so excited to share with you the newest feature to happen at ClassDojo. They are launching a video series with discussion guides to help students learn about growth mindset. There will be five episodes in the series with the lovable green monster Mojo and his friends. The first video launched on Tuesday, January 19th and can be found here Every following Sunday, ClassDojo will release the next episode in the series. This resource is fantastic because:

  • The videos are short enough to maintain the attention of younger viewers but still appeals to older students.
  • The videos focus on growth mindset and how to nurture that vital life skill.
  • The discussion guide contains questions for a class discussion and questions for parents to have with their children.
  • The videos use the loving characters students have connected to with the use of ClassDojo.
  • The video is released on a schedule to allow for discussion and also to incite excitement. (Countdown calendar sounds fun)
  • It's free (I love free)

After finishing the video be sure to sign up for reminders of the future releases of videos. Be sure to check out the videos here

Thank you for stopping by.

Commonly Confused Words Bingo Freebie

I hope everyone had a great new year and are ready to head back to school. We have in-service on Monday and students return Tuesday. I've had a request for some resources for helping students use and practice commonly confused words. Click on the images below to download the free Bingo game.

Click on the image to download my Commonly Confused Words Bingo Set. The set has ten different bingo cards and a list of words with definitions. I plan on reading the definition out loud to the students for them to find the word on their bingo card. I laminate the meaning sheets and mark them off with an expo when I call them out to the students. I also laminate the students cards and they use expo markers to mark their words, instead of using those pesky circles that get every where.
